Beyoncé nervous about Atlantic City comeback

Beyoncé will be performing for the first time since birthing her daughter, Blue Ivy, this weekend at Atlantic City’s Revel Resort.

The pop star admits to being nervous about performing post baby bump.

“It’s a little strange, but it’s important that you don’t lose yourself and you still have your own passions,” she says in a behind the scenes video. “And I’m back to work, I’m back to business.”

Soweto gets first fashion week

Soweto, a township in Johannesburg, opened its’ first fashion week on Thursday.

Fashion designers in Soweto are excited to finally have their own space.

“Creatives from Soweto do need their own platform,” said fashion blogger Mahlatse James. “If the other fashion platforms can not afford that, they have to create their own.”

Stephen Manzini, organizer of Soweto Fashion Week, held rehearsals in the parking lot of a friend’s apartment.

“We refused to be stopped because we don’t have funding,” he said, after raising 60,000 rand from sponsors for the event.

Valencia Mache, a Soweto legal advisor who attended the event, said, “Even if there is no opportunity, make an opportunity.”

Egypt has a long way to go, says ElBaradei

Reform leader Mohamed ElBaradei celebrated the end of ‘the culture of fear’ on Wednesday.

The day marked the first free presidential election for Egypt.

In an AP Interview, ElBaradei emphasized that national unity is more important than the election’s winner.

“I think the most crucial factor is to get Egyptians to understand that they need to agree on the basic common values that they’re going to live under in the future,” he said.

The winner will be announced on June 21 and will succeed long time ruler Hosni Mubarak.

Phillip Phillips wins American Idol

Phillip Phillips, a 21-year-old pawn shop worker from Georgia, became the new ‘American Idol’ on Wednesday.

Phillips seemed shocked and humbled by the announcement.

“I have no idea why I won, man,” he said. “I guess some people like the music that I was doing.”

Tuesday’s final competition between Phillips and 16-year-old, Jessica Sanchez garnered 132 million votes.

Phillips carries the 5 year winning streak for white male contestants.

Sanchez, who is of Latino and Filipino descent, has no hard feelings over the loss.

“I don’t blame it on anything.” she said. “Phillips has fans, and I have mine. We’re two totally different people. Our genres are completely different.”

Pakistani doctor convicted for helping in Bin Laden raid

Shakil Afridi, the doctor who helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden, was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Wednesday.

Alfridi ran a vaccination program to collect DNA and verify Bin Laden’s presence in Abottabad.

He was detained after the raid and was later tried in Khyber, where he was raised.

U.S. officials have expressed concern over Afridi’s sentence and are working on ways to get him released.

Talat Masood, a defense analyst, said, ” If things go well with the U.S., it’s very likely he will be pardoned.”
